Deflect is a website security service by eQualitie that protects against application layer DDoS attacks and other cyber threats, improving website performance and availability through its global reverse-proxy edge infrastructure. It offers ethical, transparent, affordable protection, emphasizing free support for non-profit and civil society organizations. Over 80 million readers visit thousands of Deflect-protected websites yearly, about 2% of the internet. Deflect has published numerous investigative reporting over the years and the team hopes to resume this function with your help.
Role Overview:
eQualitie is seeking an experienced data analyst to lead efforts on botnet classification, botnet fingerprinting, DDoS attack analytics and platform security analytics as part of the Deflect Labs initiative. With your help, we will:
- Produce analytic reporting on DDoS and other types of attacks targeting Deflect clients.
- Collaborate with partners and peer organizations on threat information-sharing channels and standards.
- Explore correlations in botnet activities and search for different botnet behavior similarities.
- Provide insights to support DDoS mitigation and improving defenses against emerging cyber threats.
Requirements
- Familiarity with common Internet protocols (HTTP1/2/3, TCP/IPv4+6, UDP, DNS)
- Familiarity with open source intelligence gathering, platforms and methods
- Familiarity working with an ELK stack
- Experience with statistical analysis and data manipulation
- Experience in cyber security, web security or network security
- Good communication and writing skills
Nice to have
- Experience with anomaly detection (machine learning)
- Familiarity with Python or any other programming language for automation
- Experience in building or operating big data processing pipelines
